Objectives:
- Starting from the user requirements of T2.1, technical specification definition for manufacturing green equipment in terms of hardware technologies, networking protocols and service paradigms.
- For each device typology and internal element (e.g., network interfaces, traffic processing engines, etc.), identify energy efficiency issues as well as possible green enhancements:
- Detailed definition of which elements/link must support power-scaling primitives.
- Detailed definition of which elements/link must support standby primitives.
- Catalogue and define a suitable set of existing energy-aware HW technologies capable of:
- Scaling power and/or entering standby modes and/or measuring their power consumption.
- Estimating their potential energy savings and their performance indexes (processing capacities at each operating frequency, HW wake-up times).
- Specify power scaling and standby profiles and requirements for each device element (number of power scaling states, processing capacities, transition times between different states, wake-on-packet capabilities, etc.).
- Define and specify a initial set of energy-aware parameters to be exposed to control and OAM applications for the autonomic and/or user-driven configuration and monitoring.
- Specify HW interfaces, form-factors, and compliant technologies for manufacturing evaluation boards for demonstration and integration activities.
