Title: Local optimization of energy efficiency
Start month:  M13 M17 (Feb 2012)
End month:  M24 M27 (Dec 2012)
Leader: CNIT
Participants:  CNIT  MLX  TELIT  NASK  DCU  WUT  LGT
Objectives:
  • Design and develop novel control strategies and algorithms for:
    • optimally and jointly synchronizing power states and for dynamically allocating energy resources among heterogeneous sub-components of single devices (e.g., packet processing engines and network link interfaces capable of entering in standby or power scaling modes) in order to meet traffic volumes and service requirements.
    • power states synchronization as SW applications, namely energy-aware "governors", which will include interfaces towards the green abstraction layer as specified in T4.2 and T4.3.
  • Design and develop advanced control strategies for green equipment in a same site (e.g., cabinets, points of presence, pair of redundant devices) in order to meet traffic service and fault-tolerance requirements.
  • Design and develop heat dissipation models of energy-aware devices in a same cabinet/point of presence for adaptively modulating cooling systems.
  • Provide a first validation of the local optimization strategies through simulative and/or emulative means.
